I can be repetitive in my day-to-day life so I am making an extra effort not to be repetitive on this site. So, I dug a littler deeper.
Then I remembered Mary Me Jane.
Their album was used as the soundtrack for If Lucy Fell, which is probably one of my favorite video store rental discoveries, ever. It came out in 1996 with a cast of Sarah Jessica Parker, Eric Schaeffer, Ben Stiller, Elle Macpherson, and even a 12 year old Scarlett Johansson makes a minor appearance.
|"It's not symbolic. It's pretty spelled out!"|
Another awesome scene between SJP and Ben Stiller
Oh, and it's about artists. Bonus points right there.
Joe (Eric Schaeffer) is infatuated with Jane (Elle Macpherson) who lives in the adjacent building. He can see her through his window and he
He is dorky and awkward and I absolutely love him in this movie –
he is the perfection of an antihero.
One of my favorite conversations from the movie:
Jane: I love your paintings.
Jane: Yeah, really.
Joe: Can I ask you something?
Joe: Are you involved with anyone?
Jane: Him. (She gestures to the man in the painting entitled 'Limp Dick Man')
Jane: He does have quite a limp dick. But he gives the best damn head ever.
And then Joe gives THEE best shocked/turned on/recoiled expression that I cannot even describe accurately.
Just watch the movie... and of course, enjoy the music as well.
I have not seen, or even heard of that movie. But that excerpt, yes...yes I must go rent it immediately!ReplyDelete
Cool song choice! I'm hosting a Music Monday Blog Hop as well over at http://www.OliviaBlueMusic.com/ - so feel free to join me... Hope you have a great week!!! :)ReplyDelete
I love the movie If Lucy Fell.ReplyDelete
If I spit in a cup would you drink it?
AH YES, the spit test! So glad you love it - not many have heard of it.
Yes, do it. Today.
Good Lord, it's been way too long seen I watched that movie! Such a classic and a great cast too. 1996? Wow. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Great pick!ReplyDelete
Jammin’ to the music…What Music Is Moving You This Monday?ReplyDelete
Cathy Kennedy, Children's Author
The Tale of Ole Green Eyes
It has been so long since I have seen that movie, must have a movie night with my girls!!ReplyDelete
I wish I had a cool nickname like "limp dick man."ReplyDelete
I'm sure I can think of a couple for you, if you really want one.
I hadn't heard of the movie either.. or the song! But that's not surprising for me! I do like it though and anything connected to SATC has gotta be good ;-)ReplyDelete
Nope me either. Love the song though. I must say it's one of a few songs that I listen all the way through. I really like Sarah Jessica Parker I think she's a good actress. Hmmm maybe I need to go rent that movie. ~hehe~ Thanks for playing along today. Don't forget to look for my Gala Give-Away Bash celebrating 1,000 followers. I only have 27 more to go! woo hooReplyDelete
hmmm I haven't seen the movie, but likey the song.ReplyDelete
Cool song...I remember being turned down to be the subject in the painting because I was the complete opposite of LDM. Hahahaha cool post, I remember my girlfriend making me watch that movie on VHS ! Ouch ! :)ReplyDelete
I've never heard of that band or the movie. Definitely renting this on Netflix. I hope I get around to watching it when it arrives. I treat my Netflix movies WRONG.ReplyDelete
@King of NYHReplyDelete
Awwee... that's too bad.
I'm sure you got a couple laughs out of it - even for guys, there's funny bits, I'm sure.
I'd have to dig deep to determine how I'd react to someone downplaying my lit'l jimmy while celebrating my mouth skillz. i'm curious about this shock/turn-on/recoil expression.ReplyDelete
thank you for mentioning Marry Me Jane. A friend saw your article and told me about it - new band - of course nothing beats my old one, Brad, Dan, Tim and Rich. But everyone is all over the country and/or very busy.ReplyDelete
I have a new band, Rich Mercurio, Knox Chandler, Lee Nadel, and when we are done learning all the new songs I think we'll add a new guy. Expect to start playing in September, record October. Not sure I should use my name, no particular reason except it's hard to pronounce and who wants to tell anybody to come and see a band they can't pronounce, Kravat. No offense to my father, who I loved so much it hurts.
My kids are not quite old enough to really understand what my lyrics are about (the new songs are pretty honest, shall we say).
Would love to hear some music that you think is fantastic - always more fun to hear recommendations - I listen to old chris whitley, the junkie sounding records lately a lot, New Pornographers, Blue, TV on the Radio, Redstone Hall, P. Hux, usual beatles, M morning Jacket (always been drawn to boy bands). I took an overdose of singer-songwriter women (including myself) and love rock and roll again. My new stuff is grungier than it used to be, at least i think so.
Have a great nite, and thanks again, you've made mine! xxx a
And most importantly, If Lucy Fell was a fantastic movie - always completely relevant! Love all of it, actors, script, etc.ReplyDelete
What if you weren't even talking about MMJ song, I don't think I know how to even read a blog!
Dear Amanda Kravat,ReplyDelete
Thank you for stopping by and checking out my site!
I still listen to your album a lot. Many of the songs on it had/have a profound meaning to me and no matter how many times I hear them, they always make me stop and think of the ones I've loved.
