Heavy Heart
I was going to write about how I think I did okay at my Dragon's Den audition,
but I'm not going to be holding my breath for a phone call.
Then I was going to write about how this weather is really starting to make me crazy . . .
But since I will be off to Florida in a couple days, I was going to write about how I have to suck it up.
And then I got a phone call.
Thee phone call.
Anna passed away.
And everything else seems frivolous.
I will be missing the visitation and the funeral, and I feel ill about it.
But I will be there for them every day after.
If those 3 beautiful children need anything that I could possibly provide, I'll be there.
And that's all I have to say about that.

And you answered
Life can deal some terrible tragedies.
From that comes unity.
Community.
Love.
I want to tell each and every one of you
That have shown support and charity
To someone that they've never even met,
That you have truly moved me.
Life keeps moving,
We carry on and do what we must
But for some families, it freezes in a moment
And then everything changes.
When I first thought to raise some money
I was thinking in terms of weeks,
Not days.
You have amazed me.
It isn't much in the grand scheme of things,
But it will surely help.
And with my utmost sincerity,
I thank you all.

A special plea
Today I found out some news. The kind of news that punches you in the gut and burns your skin from the inside out. A friend of mine has been given 6 months to a year to live. She battled breast cancer in the past and won . . . but it's come back now like a vengeful whore.
It's not supposed to happen like this.
She is just like me - a young mother in her early thirties. Her son is my boys' best friend in their entire world. He knows that his mommy is sick and he's scared and sad; he's only 3.
And she has twins that just celebrated their FIRST birthday last month.
It's not supposed to fucking happen like this.
I have always claimed that I wish my father lived at least for a short while after I was born so we could have shared something, anything; 1 year, 6 months, 3 weeks even. These children will have had that time but it still doesn't make a damn difference. When they grow up, they will not remember who their mother was, and that wrenches my heart to the point where I can barely breathe. And I don't know how she can even get up every morning knowing that will be the fate of her own children.
They will have photographs and foggy segmented memories, but they will not have their mom.
She doesn't know that I have this blog or that I'm writing this, but I need to do something. I told her that I could have her son stay over whenever she needs a break; I need to do more. She couldn't even go back to work because what's the point? She just finished her maternity leave 3 weeks ago! GAH.
So here's what I want to do. I want to raise $1500 for her, which would work out to be 2 months of childcare for her eldest son, so he can continue to be with his friends, as well as alleviate some stress from her at home. It's not much, but I'm hoping it's what I can do for her and her family.
Now, after factoring in web server costs (etc), I've never made a dime from this blog (and I'm fairly broke) but I'm okay with that -- this just means that I need a favor. It will be the only thing I'll ever ask from you, my readers. Even if only 10% of you give ONE DOLLAR, I can reach my goal! All you have to do is click on this donate button and it will go directly to a PayPal payment page. Easy! I've also added one of those cheesy-assed thermometers to track my goal.
Sadly, time really isn't a luxury with this.
Please help today!

Boobies, boobies... rah rah rah!
In honor of it being LGBT week, I wrote about the first time I experienced a same-sex couple and my reactions that followed. Please check it out - I am kinda proud of this one and shit...

Secondly, I was informed of an awesome charity with a bit of pizzazz. I know there's loads of Breast Cancer charities, but when I saw the wrist bands for this one, I laughed out loud... and then proceeded to buy four.
Also, I've got a weakness for cleaver branding and company names, like The Keep A Breast Foundation.
Oh my gawd. I love it!
As I've mentioned in the past that my mother is a breast cancer survivor, which makes up one half of the charities I support with my whole heart (ironically, the other half being Heart & Stroke, having lost my father to heart disease). That wasn't meant to be funny, it just came out that way. You get the idea.
But seriously, how cool are these? And really... who doesn't love motor boating?!
Also in this set? NICE JUGS, FUNBAGS and NICE MELONS.
If you want to support this charity in a fun way and wear something a little cheeky, you can buy them here.
Who knows, perhaps I'm the last person in North America to hear about this foundation,
but I thought I'd share my excitement anyway.
YAY FOR BOOBIES!
