So it is happening but I believe it's not just down to the schools to educate our children it's also down to us as parents too.

Awesome post xPapercut Dollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15464641582104501391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6062424955786427474.post-10165093619777907012011-01-17T11:44:39.726-05:002011-01-17T11:44:39.726-05:00I remember I went through a phase where I had to h...I remember I went through a phase where I had to have Ralph Lauren or Vuarnet (remember that brand?) My mom took us to a place that sold imperfect items (maybe had a skipped stitch or something) and was 1/10 the price - and I was OK with owning those... as long as it had the little horse - it was never about how much I paid for it! Those words "I would rather starve..." easily can flow from one's mouth until they are faced with a situation in where they have to make that choice! They will find, along with anyone else who has been there, that material things don't mean a lick if you are truly trying to survive.Mary Hudak-Collins livingthescripture.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18181851742870395058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6062424955786427474.post-42038772185082390002011-01-17T11:04:08.188-05:002011-01-17T11:04:08.188-05:00You,re totally right. My kids are spoiled rotten, mostly due to the fact I want them to have all the stuff I didn't. But I always make sure the basics are covered before the material crap.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6062424955786427474.post-39891363338613134452011-01-17T09:12:07.606-05:002011-01-17T09:12:07.606-05:00It's so sad to see kids focussed on material t...It's so sad to see kids focussed on material things when even their own basic needs aren't being met, but you're right, it happens all the time! I worked in a school last year that had a big focus on humanitarian causes, and it went a long way in teaching the kids about life...easy & interesting stuff to incorporate into the curriculum, too...everybody wins!KDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06602170011756124927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6062424955786427474.post-45656170859023584092011-01-17T08:47:09.639-05:002011-01-17T08:47:09.639-05:00I think that is a great idea! I took them this year to deliver Christmas presents to children that otherwise wouldn't have had any. I will probably still spoil them but I want them to know there are others not so luckymyevil3yearoldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11854180510600015573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6062424955786427474.post-68616676509678646812011-01-17T07:52:30.222-05:002011-01-17T07:52:30.222-05:00I was also spoiled as a child. But definitely not to the point that I would turn my nose up as high as she did.

I really had a hard time understanding people like this. Sure, I think that to some extent, there is a bit of this attitude in everyone, but it's a matter of how you handle it. Obviously for her, it consumes her. But I think most people are able to be level-headed enough about it to even it out with appreciating what they have.

Your idea for schools is fantastic. I never got that chance and I feel like I would have learned a ton more that way.Ashleyhttp://www.afterninetofive.netnoreply@blogger.com
